Infertility Basics

We at The Midwest Center for Reproductive Health, P.A. understand that the process of finding answers to fertility problems can be very frustrating. We have assembled the following section to help you understand the most common fertility issues.

Fertility issues are often complex and may involve more than one particular issue, so please make an appointment with a specialist to get answers on your specific situation. The solution involves the development of a strategy, which makes medical, scientific and common sense. At MCRH, we are committed to facilitating development of a rational plan of action to help you deal with the complexity of infertility. The first step is to fully understand the normal reproductive process.

Overview of the Normal Reproductive Process

Before we begin, we feel it is helpful for you to understand the complexities of the process of normal reproduction. Briefly, oocytes, or eggs, are produced by the ovary and released, only to be gently picked up by the fallopian tube. As the egg is slowly transported into the tube, it meets the sperm, which have been deposited into the vagina and subsequently journeyed through the cervical mucous, the uterine cavity and finally into the broader portion of the tube. Fertilization occurs and the embryo is transported into the uterine cavity, for implantation and an ongoing pregnancy.
